24.01.2024 Today’s Inspiration from Brian Moynihan, Chairman and CEO of Bank of America
Dear Students,
As a university History major, lawyer turned banker, and Chairman/CEO of Bank of America, Brian Moynihan J.D. was just named #1 among the World’s Most Influential CEOs and Business Executives of 2024, across all industries, according to CEOWorld.biz. In contrast to the heads of many other major banks, Moynihan, the 6th of 8 children in an Irish Catholic family, has been admired for having been able to so far “hold off making cuts to his dealmaking team,” according to yesterday’s Financial News.com.
Despite some recent financial hits, B of A’s stock has generally been trending up over the past year, reflecting Moynihan’s grounded and “balanced” leadership approach (with the term “balance” appearing 4 times in the short, attached Morningstar piece!) Relatedly, Moynihan highlights the critical values of self-management, resilience and perspective, key values to inspire ambitious international students like you, in advising: “This is a marathon in life. You can’t be sprinting all the time or else you wear yourself out. You have to make sure you’re taking care of yourself, keeping yourself grounded and not letting every little thing get you worked up.”
Food for thought by the head of a $3T+ multinational organization with 217,000+ employees.
Wishing you a balanced day.
