Dear Students,

What is reality, anyway?

And, if that question isn’t challenging enough, how can we possibly define “extended reality”? According to Wikipedia, “Extended reality (XR) is an umbrella term to refer to augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR). The technology is intended to combine or mirror the physical world with a digital twinworld” able to interact with it, giving users an immersive experience by being in a virtual or augmented environment.”

Fortunately, the XR (or metaverse) space presents an exciting range of opportunities for candidates like you, who may be intrigued by the VR, AR and/or MR arenas. Wikipedia notes that such technologies are being actively leveraged in fields including “entertainment, cinema, marketing, real estate, training, education [and others].” Ambitious international students (like you and your friends), who may be seeking to enter these careers, will find the following article of great interest:

For additional details on such careers, aspiring professionals like you or and your classmates can also consult: https://www.coursera.org/articles/augmented-reality-careers or https://www.ediiie.com/blog/careers-in-ar-vr/

We’ll add a friendly reminder to young talent like you that while these professions may seem most appealing to the technically-inclined, entering and advancing within such domains (no pun intended) requires a healthy dose of the power skills that are so important in collaborating with others within an innovative team-oriented environment.

Wishing you a “real-ly” great weekend!

Best,
Amy-Louise
