31.05.2024 Today’s Insights on Careers in Logistics and Transportation, from SCMtalent.com
Dear Students,
Could you correctly identify even one field that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports to be growing at 18% annually (which they categorize as “much faster than average”)?
The one in question is likely an area that ambitious international students like you haven’t even thought of, called Logistics and Transportation. For those of you with an affinity for “planes, trains and automobiles” (no, not the 1987 movie), though, these fields may well be worth investigating.
While not often thought of as “sexy” careers, opportunities within the logistical space (including Supply Chain) are diverse and multifaceted. What’s more, it’s fairly standard to move around within this arena, to spread an aspiring professional’s proverbial wings (yes, even yours!) over time. Here’s some additional detail to consider, by way of background: https://www.bls.gov/ooh/business-and-financial/logisticians.htm
From studying such career trajectories a bit, it’s clear that these types of roles require a range of power skills, which candidates like you and your friends will learn through coaching, including:
-
Analytical skills
-
Critical thinking
-
Communication
-
Detail orientation
-
Relationship-building
-
Curiosity/Inquisitiveness
-
Creativity
-
Negotiation
-
Influence
-
Persuasion
-
Team-building
-
Conflict resolution
…and a range of others.
To wrap up on a “trivial” note, since the word “logistics” actually hails from the Greek term for “skilled in reasoning,” it’s not surprising that bright young minds, like yours and those of your peers, would gravitate in the direction of such careers.🙂
Wishing you a logistically-streamlined evening!
Best,
Amy-Louise
