30.08.2024 Today’s Insights from Forbes: A Less Common Aspect of Leadership: Bringing Others Along
Dear Students,

Q:  What kind of new leader would focus on helping others to lead?
A:  A young professional with an abundance mindset.
Q:  What’s an abundance mindset?

An abundance mindset reflects the belief that there is enough for everyone. Really. That, as an ambitious international student, your true competition is not your classmates, but, instead, you from the previous day. That there’s room both “at the top,” and also “along the way,” for all of your colleagues with a vision and dedication to add value, contribute to the team, and do well.

Put another way, an abundance mindset is the opposite of a zero-sum or win-lose perspective, which reflects that if one new recruit “wins,” the other(s) must “lose.”

An aspiring leader like you (at any level – even as an intern!) with an abundance mindset believes that there is room for your peers to grow, learn, develop, contribute and even ascend the corporate ladder right alongside you. What’s more, a new grad (or student) like you who does so conveys confidence, benevolence, concern for others, patience, a commitment to organizational success, and an unselfish nature. Due to these attributes, new leaders (which could be you!) who operate from an abundance mindset are intentionally sought after, respected, admired and appreciated (all of which fuel your positive perception among company leadership).

Ironically, perhaps, as noted in the Forbes article below, an aspiring professional like you who adopts this view will discover that the suggested attitudes and behaviors will also foster your own success, providing yet an another incentive to do so.

With this concept in mind, why wouldn’t you want to operate from an abundance mindset? When our coaches can help young talent like you to learn, through coaching, that/how there is indeed enough opportunity for all, aspiring professionals like you and your friends may be surprised at just how much more you enjoy building your global career, through pivoting to an abundance perspective from one of scarcity.

Bringing people with you is an essential part of leadership. This approach not only benefits the individuals you support, it also enhances your career development.
