06.09.2024 Today’s Insights into the Evolving the HR Field, from SelectHub and Beekeeper
Dear Students,
With ubiquitous career-article references to AI and GenAI these days, some of you may incorrectly view the entire corporate HR function as consisting exclusively of recruiters (or, as we have heard them called, “the HR”), while characterizing such individuals simply as the gatekeepers potentially separating them from your next role.
Yet, you will soon learn that this isn’t actually the case. The HR field, like virtually every career direction, is evolving, and with it, the Talent Acquisition (a fancy way of saying “recruiting”) function is morphing, as well. Some good news for aspiring talent like you who are considering the space formerly known as “Personnel”? There is still a wide range of specialty sub-functions within the HR (or “human capital” or “people operations”) domain, with many not requiring an HR degree.
And while some HR arenas emphasize technical expertise (e.g., predictive HR Analytics, integrating AI into Workforce Management), many others increasingly recognize the “human” side in human resources, (e.g., change management, DEI, workplace well-being, climate change role adaptation, personalizing the review process and reskilling.) Of course, such areas of emphasis must benefit organizations, as well, ultimately driving profitability (and they are, fortunately, initiatives that do generally provide strong ROI, according to studies).
Our MCI coaching focus inherently supports such trends, so as to prepare young professionals like you and your friends to work for and/or interact with professionals in the human resources area. Today’s power skills will drive tomorrow’s career growth, as expressed so well in the SelectHub piece, “Effective leadership in the modern age requires empathy, adaptability and authenticity.”
Thought for the evening?: How can motivated young talent like you best demonstrate your personal value proposition when interacting with the Talent Acquisition function – both today and in the coming years?
Best,
Amy-Louise
