09.13.2024 Today’s Insights from The Introverted Networker: How to “Get Lucky During Networking”
Dear Students,

Have you ever heard the expression “luck surface area?” I hadn’t either.

It’s an interesting concept explained below by Greg Roche, podcast producer and newsletter writer, who goes by the name “the Introverted Networker.” As Roche explains in the video embedded within the article below, the idea is that “You put yourself in positions where luck will seem to happen to you.” Wouldn’t an ambitious international student like you jump on this type of opportunity? Essentially, as Roche puts it, “The more people know what you do [as an aspiring professional], and the more you’re ‘out there’ letting them know what you do, the more good things are going to happen to you.”

When students and new grads like you and your friends consider this simple yet profound wisdom, you will realize just how much sense it makes. So, within our MCI coaching, our coaches would like to help you to start – even if you have not yet overcome your fears about meeting new Westerners, “wasting time” at events sponsored by companies that may not be identical to the industry or exact role you are seeking or feel anxiety about what to say when networking.

As Nike put it in their first major television campaign over 35 years ago, “Just Do It!” Our coaches can help eager campus recruits like you to recognize that the sooner you dip your toes into the networking pond, the sooner you will begin to differentiate yourself through face-to-face contact, make a memorable impression “in person,” and convey all of the intangible interpersonal power skills that you have to offer (many of which are not conveyed on your resume).

Here’s calling out to all of you introverted networkers this evening!

Best,

Amy-Louise
