12.04.2025 Today’s Insights into Cybersecurity Careers, from Indeed.com and others
Dear Students,

Quick: Can you name 10 reasons for an ambitious international student (maybe even you?) to choose a career in cybersecurity? If not, here’s a cheat sheet: https://online.champlain.edu/blog/top-reasons-to-consider-cybersecurity-career

With an expected compound average growth rate of 12%-15% from 2024-2032, the cybersecurity market (according to FortuneBusinessInsights.com) offers an array of opportunities for motivated students and new grads (like you and your friends) alike. Since some entry-level roles do not require specialized experience, aspiring professionals (perhaps even you?) can leverage the flexibility of various academic backgrounds as a foundation.  For more on how to enter the field, interested candidates (could be you?) can read here: https://www.springboard.com/blog/cybersecurity/cybersecurity-no-experience/#:~:text=Many%20employers%20are%20looking%20for,You%20will%20find%20something%20soon!
While some of the 15 career options listed in the piece below do entail more years of experience, candidates (like you and your peers) may nonetheless choose to join this function through numerous less complex roles including Security Analyst, Security Consultant or Information Security Analyst. https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/finding-a-job/career-in-cyber-security

Our coaches are eager to ensure that any young talent (this could mean you!) pursuing this fast-growing space (thought to have originated in 1971, when BBN Technologies computer programmer Bob Thomas “created and deployed a virus that served as a security test”, per Monroeu.edu), realize(s) that not only technical competencies, but also a core set of power skills will allow you to excel. While students intrigued by this career path (does this make you think of anyone you know?!) can easily appreciate the value of problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills, creativity and innovation, for example, you will also soon learn the equally-important roles of effective communication, teamwork, listening, collaboration, ability to consider diverse views and initiative to your success as a cybersecurity professional. Candidates (perhaps even someone you know) who can work well under pressure, remain calm and patient, exude resilience, maintain perspective and a demonstrate a sense of humor, can also be a good fit for this arena, representing projected 2032 global revenues of $563B.

Despite the many wonderful career options noted above, we wish you and yours a weekend devoid of personal cybersecurity issues!

Best,

Amy-Louise
