What Will You Learn?

The seminar is a comprehensive session that educates students on the entire job application process from resume writing to attending career fairs and the final stages of interview preparation. We will elaborate on the four types of interview questions and provide suggestions on how to best tackle them. In this seminar, students will learn about critical networking skills and company research techniques that would help them to excel in their job applications.

 

Information About the Speaker

Carrie Waley

Carrie was born in Beijing and moved to Hong Kong when she was young, living there until the early 1990s.

Carrie has vast Sino-British business experience.   In Hong Kong she worked in the hospitality, public relations and media sectors and, after moving to the UK and taking some time out to raise her two daughters, started her own Sino-British businesses in the late 1990s.

These included a bespoke educational agency and a recruitment consultancy.In 2007, drawing on her varied experience in the sector, Carrie founded Mandarin Consulting, a cross-border market entry consultancy and headhunting agency for bilingual Chinese graduates.  Carrie and her team are proud of their achievements in the last few years and are determined to maintain Mandarin Consulting’s leading position within the sector.

Carrie is well versed in both Chinese and British culture.  She speaks and writes fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and English and is uniquely equipped to bridge the linguistic and cultural divide between China and the West.

 

David Peckham

Graduating with an engineering degree from Imperial College London, David worked as an engineer for several years before spending 19 years with the top management consultancy firms Price Waterhouse (now PwC) and PA Consulting Group. He then established himself as an independent consultant.

David has directed and led projects in a wide variety of public and private sector organizations throughout the world, focusing primarily on business strategy, corporate restructuring and bringing about radical performance improvements. The sectors in which he has worked include: energy, manufacturing, process and chemicals, mining, transportation, construction and financial services.

David has worked in a wide range of countries, including those in Eastern and Western Europe, the Americas and Caribbean, Asia and the Middle East. Many of his projects have involved him leading large mixed local and expatriate teams, working to bring about significant change. Having lived in Hong Kong as a child and having a well-developed interest in Chinese culture, David joined Mandarin Consulting in 2009 and has been instrumental in the development of the business. He has won the respect of both the corporate clients and Chinese individuals who have used Mandarin Consulting’s services. David has thoroughly enjoyed the challenge Mandarin Consulting has presented him.  He has also been touched by the gracious gestures and warmth he has received from the Chinese candidates on our career coaching program. David looks forward to growing Mandarin Consulting so that more companies and individuals can benefit from its services.
