28.02.2024 Today’s Inspiration from Jeff Weiner – Former CEO of LinkedIn, Former EVP of Yahoo and Former VP at Warner Brothers
Dear Students,

While some of you may use LinkedIn, and a few of you may even do so on a regular basis, most aspiring professionals, even ambitious MCI international students, don’t stop to think of how LinkedIn grew to become so important in the professional arena. Ironically, perhaps, former LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner (at the helm for 11 years) developed an impressive reputation (and was once hailed as the “Highest Rated CEO,” on Glassdoor) for not pushing his staff to make their professional lives their whole lives. Even in his role as the company’s Executive Chairman (since 2020), Weiner is known for exuding and coaching young people around balance (new grads like you can read his “advice for 22-year-olds” within the article below).

It’s inspiring that this measured approach provided the foundation for Weiner’s impact while CEO, growing LinkedIn from 338 employees to headcount of 15,800+, in 30+ offices, during his tenure. While having built successful careers at Warner Brothers and Yahoo! prior to LinkedIn (and his current effort, Next Play Ventures), Weiner gained a reputation for not only working hard but also caring for others while doing so. To wit, he’s been quoted as having said “Compassion is an incredibly important quality to have in every aspect of your life.”

“One of the most powerful benefits of meditation is the ability to improve issues that may have previously gone unrecognized.”

Who wouldn’t want to work for a boss like that?

Wishing you a compassionate evening.
